Imbolc is coming!

 

Today I decided to write a little about the Wiccan Calendar- specifically Imbolc.  Traditionally the year is split into 8 parts. At the moment we are heading towards Imbolc ...which is the ending of winter and the beginnings of spring.  For those of you interested in the astrology side of this...In terms of Star signs we're still under Aquarius but approaching the Pisces sign.

For now let us focus on Imbolc as that's fast approaching and it will be my first celebrated properly. Imbolc ... or Imbolg is a Gaelic traditition to celebrate the beginning of spring which is usually celebrated on Brigid's day ( Brighid in Gaelic). Who is Brighid? Well Brighid is the Goddess of the Hearth, a maternal goddess of protection and nurture who brings rebirth to the land.
The purpose of Imbolc is to give thanks to the Goddess for bringing this rebirth to the land .

This means for practicioners, a change in Altar decorations. Gone are the Yule tide seasonal altars and in are the altars of rebirth. So now is the time to bring in fresh daffodils and other spring flowers to your altar, oats
and seasonal fruit is also a great idea. As i am a solitary Witch not a part of a Coven I will be doing the simple ritual below that i found through Learn religions.com.
