Witchy Water: How to make Moon and Sun Water

I wanted to write a little on the types of water used commonly in witchcraft, then realised i had already created a PDF doc about it (you can find this at the bottom).

Now full disclaimer. This doc is written based on my personal experience and knowledge. As is this blog really. But it is here at the bottom of the page, for those who may wish to download it.

First an introduction. What do i mean by the term "Witchy Water". This is a term i'm using to cover all types of water that can be used in witchcraft depending on your preference and needs. The water is usually blessed or infused with something or some energy and used for many different purposes.

Uses

Water can be used for multiple purposes in terms of spiritual beliefs and the craft. From offerings and representation, to rituals and cleansings. Below is a complete list of it’s uses

  • To anoint candles
  • In, before and after rituals
  • To represent water on altars or in your works
  • Spiritual offerings
  • Painting
  • To cleanse and clean objects, areas and people
  • Creating a sacred/protective circle
  • Simmer pots
  • Metaphysical cooking (Eating Drinking)
  •  Feeding plants

Timing

An important thing to note is that Water within witchcraft can be effected by time and the phase of Earth and the Moon’s rotation within our solar system. Below is a brief list of the Moon’s phases to help aid in this.

Please let me know if you think any info in this post is inaccurate.

Other Times of the year (solstices and equinoxes) you should research separately.

Forms of water

The different forms of water have their own properties that can enhance flora, simmer, salt and celestial water.

  • Storm water adds a strong and dominative energy that is robust against negative influences.  This water is used In spells for banishment, great protection or intense cleansing.
  • Hail water and Snow storm water is a little gentler and  perfect for spells of motivation , intelligence and protection.
  • Rain water is cleansing and can take on the property you  may need, want or add to it via added items (herbs, flowers etc.)
  • Snow water is both the gentlest and the coldest, it can be used for soothing, calming and distancing/ freezing out a negative force.
  • Seawater takes on the power of the sea and encompasses wind and water elements, it is powerful and protective, fierce and gentle like the waves

Types of Water

Celestial Water: Solar (Sun) and Luna (Moon) Water

Celestials are the powers of those not on earth. With regards to these types of waters , celestial refers to the energies of the sun (stars) and moon.

Solar water is a masculine celestial power with warm, energising properties of the sun. It is particularly useful for crafting that requires strength, motivation and passion. It is also useful for enhancing spells and protection.

Solar water is made by placing a clear vessel of water in view of the sun. The sun enhances the water with it’s energy. Solar energy must be collected before night in order for it to remain solar water. If not it becomes infused with the energy of moon also. When this happens it is now called celestial
water.

Luna water is a feminine celestial power with a calming , cleansing and invigorating energy. It’s  useful for soothing, protecting and re-birthing whatever it is used for.

Like Solar water, this type of water is placed in a clear vessel under the moon , but is hidden before the sun rises to protect it from becoming celestial water and kept out of daylight.

Both celestial waters are effected by the position of Earth as it makes it’s way around the sun; and specific times of the year ( solstices and equinoxes).

However, Luna water is  also effected by the phase that the moon is in (as mentioned above under timing) . If there is an eclipse or a special type of moon ( Blood moon, Blue, Pink and Super moons) than Luna water is effected by these types of moons and their properties.

Flora Water: Florida/ Flower water

Flora water  ( known also as Florida water) is created by infusing or distilling water with flowers and their metaphysical properties. Flora water is used in many  eastern  cultures to bless  and consecrate  their holy  statues and religious tools. It can also be used  as an offering, for cleansing as well as in protective spells or as part of Elemental work representing earth and water.

Simmer Water:  Herbs, Spices, Fruit etc.

Simmer Water is water infused with herbs, spices, fruit or roots. By technicality all previous types of water can be used as part of a simmer pot. The water itself  takes on the effect of the metaphysical properties of it’s included ingredients; as such this water can be customised for a specific intent.

Blessed Water: Deity Water, Holy Water

Blessed water, also known as Holy water. Is water that has been blessed by a spiritual leader on behalf of beings such as deities, profits and spirits etc.

This water is commonly used by Abrahamic religions for blessing an protection of individuals and holy items. In Various folklore holy water is used against unholy beings such as demons, vampires and Lycanthropes ( Werewolves)

Salt Water

Salt is known to be a repellent , cleanser, banisher and warding ingredient .Added to water , salt
infuses the water with it’s properties. It is said  that salt can protect against curses and enchantments from others ( especially members of the fair folk who may of taken a prank too far or are punishing you). In some cases it may even nullify them.

  • Black salt is infused with charcoal from herbs and incense; it’s known for helping aid in banishment.
  • Himalayan salt is used for self care and known to be protective and symbolism of the east and air.
  • Sea salt infuses the powers of the sea and is strong, protective and cleansing. Natural Salt water  from the ocean works best for sea witch practices.

An additional note which i didn't think to add to my pdf is below.

Uncommon Water

Uncommon waters that are used in witchcraft include dirtied water such as water with literal dirt, with bits of rust, blood, urine and generally other unpleasant things added to this. From my knowledge Blood is used in binding magic or blood magic ( reserve your sarcastic response to that), and the others are used in repellent, banishment and warding. Information on these types of waters is very slim which is why i don't have any detailed information for you. But feel free to research further. One thing i will say is please don't harm another for the creation of these waters ; or use them to intentionally harm another. it is your practice but i personally do not encourage such negative behaviour and abuse.
