Candles 101: Colour Magic

You may have come across the term "Colour magic" whilst researching, or within spells, you may have read in the tool list a specific coloured candle. Well, the two are linked. Much like in the psychological practice of Colour therapy. Each colour symbolises certain representations in magic. These representations can be of:

Intent

Elements

Deities

Intent

In terms of using colours for intent, they refer to what you'd like your outcome to be. For example, if you are casting a luck spell you would use a green candle. On a day where you'd like a positive day, you may decide to wear pink, green, orange or yellow clothing.

Here is a key of coloured candles and their representations with regards to intending- You'll be able to find multiple keys and may find certain intents are represented with one or two different coloured candles

Candle colours can be confusing, try using
the symbols for the elements instead!
Elements

This is trickier to represent in candles and you may find yourself confused over what colour represents what element.

Usually, the physical elements are represented by Red, Yellow, Green and Blue. Red for Fire, Yellow for air, Green for Earth and Blue for Water. However, Earth and Air are often represented by other colours also. Air can be represented with White and Orange and Earth also by Orange and also Brown.
As such, I would consider not using Coloured candles to represent these elements, rather, use a white candle ( White can be used for all spells) and draw and anoint the candle with the symbolism of the 4 physical elements.

The 5th Element: Spirit can be represented with a white or purple candle.

Deities

There are hundreds of Deities, each with their own symbolism. So finding a candle for any that call out to us can be challenging. For this, research your deity on what they're known for. For example, Aphrodite is the goddess of love, Love and affection can be represented by a pink candle. So perhaps a pink candle with  Aphrodite's name carved, drawn or decorated on would be a good choice.

White candles can also represent a female deity ( Such as the triple Moon goddess) and Red candles can represent a masculine deity ( Such as the Horned God).

I hope you find this post interesting and helpful for your craft.
Blessed Be everyone :)
